چکیده

AIMS Obesity is a risk factor for an acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The association between elevated body mass index (BMI) and ACS is independent of most traditional risk factors, suggesting a possible contribution of other body fat-related mediators. This study evaluated the association between adiponectin and ACS. METHODS AND RESULTS Four hundred and ninety-nine patients undergoing coronary angiography were divided into a subgroup without (n = 331) and with ACS (n = 168). In multiple regression analysis, higher adiponectin levels were independently associated with a lower risk of ACS [odds ratio (OR) = 0.61; 95% CIs: 0.46-0.81; P < 0.001]. In contrast, a higher BMI, a history of myocardial infarction, C-reactive protein, and angiographic coronary artery disease severity were all associated with a higher risk. The greatest increase in risk for ACS was seen at adiponectin levels < or = 5.5 microg/mL. CONCLUSION Higher plasma adiponectin levels are independently associated with a lower risk of ACS.

Reduced plasma adiponectin levels relative to oxidized low density lipoprotein and nitric oxide in coronary artery disease patients

INTRODUCTION Adiponectin is a circulating hormone that is produced exclusively by adipocytes and has antiinflammatory and anti-atherogenic properties. The hypothesis that there are differences in adiponectin levels between stable and unstable coronary-artery disease patients remains controversial. Furthermore, the potential relationships between the plasma adiponectin level and the inflammatory...

بررسی سطح پلاسمایی مالون دی آلدئید ، تروپونین قلبیI و پروتئین واکنشگر C در مبتلایان به بیماریهای عروق کرونر حاد

Introduction & Objective: Ischemic injury of endothelium is associated with prostaglandin synthesis and platelet adhesion and aggregation, which may be associated with the release of aldehydes such as malondialdehyde (MDA). C-reactive protein and cardiac troponin I have been proposed as diagnostic markers of acute coronary syndromes. In this study, we compared the usefulness of plasma MDA as a ...

Decrease in Plasma Adiponectin Concentrations in Patients with Vasospastic Angina

Background and Objectives:Plasma adiponectin, which decreases the progression of atherosclerosis and insulin resistance, as well as suppressing lipid accumulation in macrophages, is decreased in patients with acute myocardial infarction and unstable angina pectoris; however, the correlation between plasma adiponectin and vasospastic angina pectoris (VAP) remains to be verified. We compared the ...

Association of adiponectin level with biochemical variables and insulin resistance in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in an Iranian population

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is one of the most important chronic liver disorders worldwide. Adipokines are polypeptide hormones that participate in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Adiponectin is an adipokine that stimulates fatty acid oxidation in muscle and plays a role in the development of insulin sensitivity. This study aimed to investigate the assoc...

Relationship of Plasma Adiponectin Levels with Acute Coronary Syndromes and Coronary Lesion Severity in North Indian Population

Adiponectin is an adipocyte specific cytokine which, in contrast to other adipokines, has been described to have antiinflammatory, antithrombotic, and anti-atherogenic properties. This study evaluates the association between plasma adiponectin levels with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and angiographic coronary lesion severity in Indian population. Ninety patients included in the study were divi...
